I am childless…
As I started writing this blog, I discovered how many people out there are like me. There are tons of childless women and men. So, it’s weird to me that I felt so alone during my infertility struggle and as we began to accept our childless life. Truly, I wasn’t sure there was anyone else out there like me. It’s one of the main reasons I started Not So Mommy… I wanted to lend support, comfort, and hope to those going through the same type of struggle that I went through.
As I joined the childless community, I connected with World Childless Week, Gateway Women, The NotMom, and others. I started to wonder if there was a place for me in the blogging world. Did anyone really need to hear my story? Although I had felt alone, there were already wonderful sites out there to help childless people.
But then, I came across this quote from Marie Forleo…
If you hold back for fear it’s all been done before, the world will have lost something truly unique. It’ll be missing your voice, your perspective, your soul.
And I realized, of course I need to tell my story. My story is unique, and you never know who you will inspire by telling the tale from your perspective.
I am a teacher…
Plus, in my heart of hearts, I am a teacher with a Bachelor’s in Spanish Education and a Master’s in Teaching English as a Second Language, so I love to give insights using language. And the written word is my favorite. Now, that’s probably because I am an introvert and talking face-to-face with people… Well, once I get to know you, I won’t shut up. But before that… Let’s just say that I really hate small talk and meeting new people, especially in a group setting, raises my anxiety!
So, what else makes me, well, me? Here are a few random tidbits….
I am a lover of Hello Kitty…
I love Hello Kitty. I mean to the point that my students said I was obsessed with her! She brings back fond memories of childhood and Hello Kitty pink is my favorite. My 30th birthday was Hello Kitty themed (my choice). For my 40th birthday, Bruna’s family threw me a surprise party and, to my delight, chose a Hello Kitty theme for me! And I have done everything in my power to introduce Hello Kitty to all my nieces. (Luckily, our middle niece and my cousin’s little girl both still love her even though they are growing up!)
I am an avid pumpkin collector…
I love pumpkins…. As much as Hello Kitty? Let me think. Yep. As much as Hello Kitty. I think pumpkins are amazing. It doesn’t matter the shape, size, or color, if it’s a pumpkin, I’m gonna smile. I even put pumpkins on my Christmas tree!
I am a holiday fanatic…
Which brings us to the holidays… I love the holidays. To me, the holiday season begins in September, decorating for fall, and then, moves into Halloween, Thanksgiving (my favorite), Christmas, and New Year’s. Our trees (I put up at least 3 every year) stay up for about two months (from mid-November to mid-January). I listen to all Christmas music all the time starting as early in November as I can and watch TONS of Christmas movies and drink lots of hot chocolate….
Oh. And peppermint bark. Dark chocolate peppermint bark. It is the best! My hubby found some peppermint bark gelato for me. I was in Heaven! So yummy!
I am quirky…
Now, for my dislikes…
I do not like belly buttons. I cannot stress this enough. At the follow-up appointment after my endometriosis surgery, the doctor kept poking at my belly button because there were some stitches there. (Totally grossed me out.) Honestly, if he had touched my belly button one more time, I would have screamed! Belly buttons are not to be touched, pierced, or otherwise messed with.
And flour. I hate the feeling of flour. Actually, I’m a bit grossed out just talking about it!
I am uniquely me.
Digging a bit deeper, anyone who really knows me also knows this…
I am a perfectionist who doesn’t like change. I like to make plans and stick with them.
I over-analyze, and I am extremely hard on myself. If I’m not careful, I’ll let one small thing ruin an otherwise perfectly good day. (That’s why I share good things and try to focus on the positive. It helps me pay attention to what really matters.)
I miss my Daddy (who is in Heaven) every day and Valentine and Prancer (our fur babies in Heaven with him).
I worry. A lot.
And I love my family with every ounce of my being. (And to me, family includes much more than by blood and by marriage. I have lifelong friends who are family, and Bruna gave us an entire extended family in Brazil.)
Last but not least, I am a Christian. A struggling, does not have it all together, can’t judge anyone because I am a mess in my own crazy way, Christian.
So, that’s a little about me…

One of my favorite loves is the early morning; enjoying my garden growing and blooming and birds flying here and there, with the aroma of firewood burning in the chiminea. This Grandma is a huge fan of football — any football, but especially OK State, OU, Clemson and the Packers. I’ve been a Nascar fan for many years. Just last Sunday or dog growled at me because I yelled and stomped during the race, scaring him. ? I really get into my sports.?
But mostly I love my family. Watching my 2 children grow into hard working, successful. loving adults is extremely fulfilling. I’ve loved having the opportunity to be a part of our grandchildren’s lives and watch them grow and find their place. And having a granddaughter from Brazil is super special. ❤? She opened up a whole new world.
I am most grateful to God for this life. Like many, my path didn’t go as planned, but ended up just where God meant me to be. I am so blessed. ❤
