Self-care and self-love during the last quarter of 2019 were a bit non-existent. The holiday season was an extremely busy time for me. In all honesty, I should really put that in the present tense. You see, I’m writing this blog on 5 December 2019 and will schedule it to publish on 6 January 2020.
Why am I writing a blog post a month early, you might be wondering…
Well, I need to have the bulk of my work completed by Friday, 13 December.
Why?
Because that’s the day our remodel should finally be done! Then, the house gets turned back over to me. I have to clean it top to bottom, get the furniture moved back in, and decorate for Christmas no later than 18 December.
Why?
Because Bruna (our exchange daughter), plus her mom and sister, are flying clear from Brasil to spend Christmas with us! And they arrive on December 19!
For the two weeks that they are here, I want my focus and attention to be primarily on them. But I can’t leave my Not So Mommy… fabulous ones hanging. So, I’ve been diligently writing blogs and scheduling social media so that you all have (well, had) the support you need(ed) during December.
Now, originally, I had a completely different January 6 blog planned in my head. But that post was going to take some time and research to put together. And time… Well, I just don’t have much of it right now—during one of the busiest Decembers of my life.
So, I decided to practice some self-care and self-love. In other words, I decided to cut myself a bit of slack. I knew you all would understand if I linked to some past blogs and saved my new, great idea for a later post in 2020. So, that’s what I’m going to do…

And remember! Doing your best doesn’t mean working yourself to the point of exhaustion. I mean, is this the best blog I’ve ever written? No. I scratched out a rough draft in the parking lot of Panera before getting some lunch to take to our Showroom where I would work all afternoon after spending the night at a hotel because we can’t walk on our hardwood floors yet since we just stained them yesterday evening after working a full day…
So, this blog… It’s the best I could do at this moment.
On 7 January 2020, when I’ve recovered from the remodel, the holidays, the hectic October, November, December… Well, I’ll get back to writing better stuff. Until then, I’m going to be kind to myself. Like I often suggest you do… I’m taking my own advice.
