I received some amazing compliments at the Night of Hope.  About my outfit, my acceptance remarks, my work at Not So Mommy…  In fact, in my last blog, I told you that kind words spoken to me at the end of the night made me tear up!

The compliments continued as I shared about the Night of Hope via Not So Mommy… Facebook and Instagram.  You, fabulous ones, often offer beautiful encouragement…  This means so much to me, as my work love language is words of affirmation.  Each and every compliment I received made me smile, made me feel supported, helped me to realize that my work here at Not So Mommy… really is making a difference…

One compliment in particular, however, I will remember for always.  I do believe it is the best compliment I have ever received.  Before I share this “best compliment,” however, I need to back up just a bit…

6 November…

In my last post, I shared that my favorite nephew texted me while I was at the Night of Hope.  When his text came through at 6:05 PM the evening of November 6, I was shocked.  I didn’t think he knew I was receiving an award!

Well, he didn’t.

He was responding to the request I had made nearly three weeks earlier for Christmas present ideas!

I smiled when I realized what his text was about then and I’m smiling as I type about it now.  I find it absolutely perfect that one of a childless aunt’s kiddos texted her with a Christmas Wish List while she was attending RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association’s Night of Hope.

I hearted his text and tucked my phone back in my purse.  I wanted to stay in the moment and decided I’d respond properly once Uncle Dane and I got back to South Carolina.

8 November…

Fast forward a couple of days…

On 8 November, I texted my favorite nephew the following:

Thanks for getting me your list!  I was actually at the Night of Hope in NYC receiving an award when you texted.  It was perfect to receive your text on such a special eve!  I love you my favorite nephew!

I put a green heart.  And I sent him my favorite photo with a short text, “Uncle Dane and I at the gala” with a smiley face.

Almost immediately, my favorite nephew responded, “What was the award for”  No question mark.  Do the kids not use question marks?!  It’s kind-of hard for his aunt, who has a Master’s in English, not to add the question mark.  But I digress…

I responded…

RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association honored me with the Hope Award for Social Influence for my work through Not So Mommy…  It was a HUGE honor!  600 people attended the gala!

And I added another smiley face.

Four minutes later, I received the best compliment ever.  My favorite nephew texted…

“Dang  congratulations”

Now, I read this two-word text as “Dang (shocked face emoji)  Congratulations! (confetti horn emoji)”

This is a bit of an inside joke.  My favorite nephew does not use emojis.  And he thinks I use too many!  (laughing face emoji)  So, more often than not, I add numerous emojis—sometimes an obscene amount—in my texts with him.  Just to be ornery.  (crying laughing face emoji)

But in all seriousness…  I will remember that two-word compliment for the rest of my life.  I have tucked it safely inside my heart…  Oh, it is the best compliment!

Our text exchange continued…

Me:  Thank you!  It was a spectacular evening!  (smiley face emoji)

An hour & a half later, he responded, “I bet”

I hearted his comment and wrote, “I posted lots of pics on FB.  Love you” (kissy face emoji)

12 November…

Four days later, he wrote again, telling me something else he wanted for Christmas.

Crying laughing face emoji!

Today…

I’m not sure my favorite nephew will ever fully comprehend how much this text exchange meant to me.  Means to me…  It made a magical evening even more magical.  Man, I love that kid!

Thanks for reading, fabulous ones.  Man, I love you all, too!  Sending you so many hugs…
