One of the biggest lies we tell is, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Words have power. Proverbs 18:21 states, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Thus, words have the power to heal and the power to hurt. Anyone who has ever struggled (and if we are honest, that is every one of us) knows this all too well.
Yet, too often, we are careless with our words. They fly from our mouths without thought. And once said, words can never be taken back. Yes, we can forgive. But it is often much more difficult to forget…
So, when kind words are spoken… Gentle, wonderful words of appreciation, love, and support, we should cling to these beautiful truths and let those who breathed that healing know that we appreciate their thoughtfulness.
In the short time that I have been sharing through Not So Mommy…, I have received comments, messages, and emails telling me that my posts are helping my fellow warriors get through a difficult time, are providing hope that there is life after infertility, and are encouraging strong women to open the door and take that first step towards accepting childlessness.
When I resigned from teaching, I knew that I had fulfilled my purpose in the classroom. I felt strongly that I should start this blog and tell my story, but doubts creep in. I wonder, I worry, and then I receive an email like I mentioned above. I am so grateful to those of you who have reached out. You have helped me realize that my words really do matter, and that God is using them to reach people who are are hurting and in the process of healing. And I am so humbled…
We are all stumbling through this thing called life. And no one’s life is perfect, even if her social media feed seems like it is. So, let’s use our words to help and to heal. If someone is going through a tough time and you don’t know what to say, just tell them, “I’m sorry you are struggling.” If you see an adorable puppy picture come across your newsfeed, tell your friend that their dog made you smile! And if you like the cute purse that the lady in front of you is carrying, speak up! I promise that she’ll love to hear the compliment. ?
Kind words. Such a simple good thing and yet, such a powerful good thing. Spread them generously, fabulous ones! Let’s heal the broken hearted…
Has someone’s kind words ever helped you?
Tell us about it in the comments or better yet, share your Good Things Story here…

I complimented the security guard at my grocery store for being so friendly. He is now my friend. I get cheek kisses and hugs every time I go in the store. Kindness is infectious. Let it shine!❤?
