Good Things: Awareness Ribbons

When I started blogging through Not So Mommy…, I discovered that there are various awareness ribbons which aim to raise consciousness about different sectors of our tribe.  For example, PCOS Awareness is represented by a teal awareness ribbon, endometriosis by a yellow one, infertility by orange, and Pregnancy & Infant Loss is represented by a pink and blue awareness ribbon.  I proudly display these awareness ribbons at different times throughout the year in an effort to support those within our tribe, as well as educate those outside our community.

Awareness Ribbons are for all…

That is what I love about awareness ribbons — they can be displayed by anyone who wants to advocate for a specific group, whether the individual is directly a member of the group or not.  For instance, even though I do not personally have PCOS, I display the teal ribbon during September to show my support for fellow childless not by choice warriors who suffer from this illness.  Despite the fact that I was never able to get pregnant, I still post the pink and blue Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Ribbon during October in an effort to increase knowledge about this and show those who have suffered that I am sorry for their loss.

An Awareness Ribbon for our tribe…

Until recently, there was no awareness ribbon for the childless not by choice, and this had to change!  The fact that one in five women will reach the age of 45 being childless, the fact that we have much to offer the world, the fact that we too often feel alone on our journey…  All of this needs to be brought to light.  And one way to do that is by having an awareness ribbon specifically for our childless not by choice tribe.

The Olive Green Childless Not By Choice Awareness Ribbon…

So, I created an olive green awareness ribbon for our childless not by choice tribe.  Whether childless and still trying to accept this, tentatively acknowledging that your journey will indeed be childless, or fully accepting your childless walk while creating a new, beautiful and courageous existence, the olive green Childless Not By Choice Awareness Ribbon is for you!  And it is for those who want to show their support for we childless walking the CNBC path.

My hope is that the olive green Childless Not By Choice Awareness Ribbon will be displayed and worn by many, helping the conversation to grow, the education to continue, the isolation to diminish…

If that isn’t a good thing, I don’t know what is!

Hi! I saw another reader had messaged you about adding cervical/endometrial cancer awareness ribbon. And I wanted to add that in addition to the Teal ribbon representing PCOS, it also represents Ovarian Cancer, and I have/had both. If you could add Ovarian Cancer as well, I’d appreciate it! Thank you for all you do!

Thank you for this information! I will definitely share via social media about the teal ribbon also representing Ovarian Cancer. I am so grateful to be learning more about our tribe and helping to educate and raise awareness!

Also, I pray you are in remission from your cancer!
