Recently, TruDog contacted me, asking if I’d review their Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Booster, a freeze-dried raw topper.  Because I love sharing new products with fellow Dog Moms, I agreed to write a review in exchange for a package of Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Booster.  And in honor of Maddie’s 8th Birthday–which is this Saturday, May 1st–I thought a special edition blog post to review TruDog Boost Me was in order.  But before telling you about TruDog Boost Me, we must get the legalize out of the way…

The All-Important Disclaimers…

Though I did receive a free package of TruDog Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Booster, this is NOT an advertisement, but an honest review with some Dog Mom musings thrown in.  I did not receive monetary compensation for this post.  Though if you purchase products from TruDog using my affiliate link, I will earn a small commission.

A Dog Mom Review:  TruDog Boost Me Freeze-Dried Raw Topper

Maddie’s Meals…

In 2017, after resigning from teaching and beginning my blog, I started cooking for Maddie.  There were a few reasons for this…

  1. I had the time since I was (and am) a work-from-home dog mom & wife.
  2. I want our girl to be as healthy as possible and live as long as possible. And I believe quality nutrition is key to this.
  3. Preparing Maddie’s meals is one way I am redefining momhood, taking care of my fur baby as I would take care of any kiddo…
From Store-Bought to Homemade…

I first told the Not So Mommy… community about my decision to cook for Maddie in a blog entitled, “Food for Fur Babies:  From Store-Bought to Homemade.”  (You can read that blog here.)

In 2020, I once again talked about dinnertime at our house in “Redefining Dinnertime: From Before Infertility to Embracing a Dog Mom Life.”  (Read that here.)  In “Redefining Dinnertime,” I discussed that meal-prepping for our girl isn’t always easy.  Sometimes—like during our remodel or when we are out-of-town—we used to give her what we call “fast food,” which is store-bought canned dog food.  Unfortunately, while staying at a hotel after we had refinished our hardwoods, Maddie got really sick after eating her “fast food.”  (I mean, like had to get a bath because I couldn’t clean her up any other way sick.)

So, we stopped giving her canned food.  That means, I have to make time to meal-prep for Maddie.

When cooking doesn’t happen…

And usually, I do make the time.  But every now and then, during a particularly busy week or a week when I’m having an endo flare, the cooking simply doesn’t happen.  So, I end up giving her baby carrots (which we always have on hand for treats), blueberries (which I put in her breakfast every morning), coconut oil, and some type of meat that I can find in the fridge.  The problem is she really shouldn’t eat a piece of lunchmeat or left-over chicken that I’ve seasoned or pepperonis.  (Honestly, I feel like a really bad fur mama right now sharing my not-so-stellar Dog Mom moments with you…)

Could TruDog Boost Me help?

So, when TruDog contacted me, asking if I’d like to try out their Boost Me Freeze-Dried Raw Topper, I was excited to see if Maddie liked it.  Because I thought it might be the answer to our “problem.”  I could give Maddie the Mighty Meaty Beef Booster on top of her veggies when I just don’t have time to cook a meat for her.

Now, TruDog’s freeze-dried raw topper is to be used as a supplement and/or intermittently.  So, it’s NOT the only thing I should feed Maddie.  And it’s NOT the only meat I should give her.  In other words, it’s not meant to be fed as a meal.  That being said, TruDog Boost Me Freeze-Dried Raw Topper is a nutrient-rich food topper made with premium cuts of USA sourced beef meat, organs, and a bit of herring oil. It is freeze-dried to lock in the nutrients, with a shredded texture.  Also, it is a rich source of amino acids to support muscles, as well as the over-all health of your fur baby.

I know.  I know.  That sounded a bit like a commercial.  But I think it’s important to give you some general information about this product.  Especially since you might not be familiar with “food toppers.”  I know I wasn’t, as this is the first time I’ve ever used a product like this with Maddie.

Maddie’s Review of TruDog Boost Me . . .

Well, she gobbled it right up!

The first time I gave Maddie TruDog Boost Me, I sprinkled it over the top of some broccoli.  Now, Maddie adores broccoli.  Truly, it’s one of her absolute favorite foods!  So, a couple of days later, I gave her a plate with broccoli on one side and Boost Me Freeze-Dried Raw Topper on the other.  I was shocked when Maddie sniffed the broccoli, then the topper, and decided to eat the Boost Me first!

Even though Maddie loved Boost Me, I wanted to make sure that it didn’t upset her tummy.  Though I checked that it is grain-free, I was still a bit concerned.  Perhaps because it is a freeze-dried raw topper.  And I’ve never fed Maddie raw before.  I always cook her meats.  Luckily, she hasn’t had any issues.  Whew!

TruDog Products…

TruDog not only offers the Boost Me topper (in 5 different flavors—beef, turkey, rabbit, duck, & whitefish), but food, treats, and supplements, as well.  I might just have to get Maddie some of the Treat Me Savory Salmon Diced Delight.  Made in the USA from 100% Wild Alaskan Salmon, with NO wheat, corn, grains, sugar, fillers, chemicals, by-products, refined carbohydrates, or added salt, this Dog Mom likes the sound of that!

Honestly, I think I’ve finally discovered what I can keep on hand for quick Maddie meals when I don’t have meat prepared for her.  I’ll just add a bit of Boost Me Freeze-Dried Raw Topper to her carrots, blueberries, and coconut oil.  That way, I won’t feel like a bad Dog Mama giving my fur-baby left-over hotdogs!
