Wife & Home
My husband and I got married on December 10, 2000. I remember smiling when he introduced me as his “wife.” I love being a wife and I love taking care of our home. In fact, many of my favorite moments are simple ones that we spend together at home—planting flowers, cooking together, painting a room….
And we have done a lot of that—painting rooms…. We have owned two homes during our marriage and both of them have been fixer-uppers. Currently, we are in the midst of a huge, whole-house remodel. For this perfectionist who loves everything to be organized and in its place, the mess around me is a bit stressful. But I keep telling myself that it will be worth it once it is all done…
Honestly, I think God is once again trying to teach me patience. We have five spaces out of about ten nearly completed. I have to work really hard to focus on those five beautiful spaces and not let the other five overwhelm me. Now, I know that we have to get the other spaces done, and we are working diligently to do that. But I would be in a really bad mood all the time if I only focused on the half-done, in-progress, messy remodel spaces. Sometimes, I just have to sit in our snug and watch a movie with my hubby, enjoying the family photos hung on the wall and the beautiful space we created.
Isn’t that the way life is, though? At least for me, it always seems that something is out of sorts. Life is just messy. So, I must choose to focus on what is good….
