From the perspective of an infertile, menopausal, childless, endo warrior…
SENSITIVE / INTIMATE POST WITH POSSIBLE TRIGGERS:  Real, honest, unashamed talk about menopause, vaginal dryness, sex, and more…

DISCLAIMER:  Recently, Chiavaye contacted me, asking if I’d be interested in writing a review of their product in exchange for a complimentary 30mL bottle of Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer.  (All I’d pay was shipping.)  I agreed.  This is NOT an advertisement, however, but an honest review.  I did not receive monetary compensation for this post.  Though if you purchase Chiavaye (or other products mentioned) using my affiliate link, I will earn a small commission.

If you are a regular here at Not So Mommy…, you know that I am quite open about infertility, grief, childlessness, and endometriosis.  Because I share so frankly about such personal subjects, it might surprise you to learn that there are other topics that I’m less comfortable talking about…  Like menopause, vaginal dryness, and sex.  Despite the fact that discussing these is out of my comfort zone, I’ve decided that I must boldly speak my truth in order to help break stigmas.  I must speak in order to show that menopause, vaginal dryness, and sex are not taboo subjects!

So, in February 2020, I wrote a blog entitled, “Redefining Sex as an Infertile, Childless Woman.”  And just last month (March 2021), I published “Managing Menopause, Endometriosis, & Anxiety,” in which I discussed what I’ve considered to be an embarrassing side effect of menopause—vaginal dryness.

As I’ve begun to speak more openly about these topics, I’m discovering that they are losing their power over me.  I’m less and less embarrassed to say the word “menopause.”  I’m less and less embarrassed that I’m suffering from a natural side effect of menopause.  A side effect that numerous women struggle with.

In “Managing Menopause, Endometriosis, & Anxiety,” I told you that one way I’m alleviating vaginal dryness is by taking the supplement Membrasin.  Today, I want to tell you about another product I’ve recently discovered—Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer.

But before we jump in…

Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer: A Review from the perspective of an infertile, menopausal, childless, endo warrior…

According to Chiavaye (pronounouced key-ah-vay), it is an “all-natural, multi-use product made in the USA.”  And this is true.  In fact, we’ll talk about the various uses of Chiavaye a bit later.  But the reason that I wanted to try it…  Because it can be used as a personal lubricant.  In fact, Chiavaye’s slogan is “Live.  Laugh.  Lube.”  And their mission…  “Making sexual health not x-rated, but actually about health.”

What a concept!

Also, Chiavaye’s founder, Kaylyn Easton, is a fellow endo warrior.  (You can read Kaylyn’s Endo Story here.)

So, let’s talk about the various uses of Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer, as well as possible triggers for the childless community…

Possible Uses, Potential Triggers…

As I opened the package of Chiavaye, I began reading everything written on the box, hoping this product would not only help me, but other fabulous ones.  And honestly, at first, I was disappointed because there was a possible trigger.  You see, Chiavaye lists six different uses of this personal moisturizer.  And one of the uses is for moms.

My brain went into overdrive.  Can I recommend this product at Not So Mommy…?!  I don’t want fabulous ones to get upset, to wobble…

I took a breath and continued my research—reading the box, scowering their website, reading blog titles, checking out social media on Instagram, Facebook, signing up for emails…

And I decided…

Yes, I can recommend Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer.  I need to tell you about potential triggers, however, so they won’t come as a shock to you.  So that, hopefully, you’ll be prepared that Chiavaye comes with a “Wobble Warning” from Brandi, of Not So Mommy…

And what specifically might potentially cause a wobble?
  • Well, the packaging states that one use of Chiavaye is “nipple serum” and does include the word “baby.”
  • The words “childbirth prep,” “pregnancy,” and “post-pregnancy” do show-up on the website (including the margin of the shop page).
  • The blog, which is about “Female Wellness,” does have a few potentially triggering photos, as well as some posts about “p.”  (Though the majority of the blog posts are about endo, intimacy, menopause…)
  • At the top of the email newsletter are buttons for “Menopause Resources,” “Endo Resources,” and “Motherhood Resources.”
  • I found one social media post that was geared towards moms.  Most of them, however, focus on women—women with menopause, women with endo, women who want to have fun with their partners…

And then, as I often do, I looked at these possible triggers form a different perspective…

Inclusivity…

This product is made for women.  Some women are moms.  Some are not.

Yes, it kind of sucks that I don’t need Chiavaye as a nipple serum because I’m breast feeding.  Instead, I need it as a personal moisturizer for vaginal dryness due to menopause and relief of sexual discomfort due to endometriosis.

But you know what is kind of cool?  Five out of six uses of this product relate to me—a childless woman.  So, while motherhood is part of this product’s focus, it is not its only nor primary focus!

And you know…  We childless don’t want to be left out.  In all honesty, we shouldn’t leave out moms.  Because they are part of our woman tribe, too.

Inclusivity…  It’s a good thing.

The Product…Photo of Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer Bottle & Package on Not So Mommy..., an infertility & childless blog

Now, let’s talk about the actual product—Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer.

In the past, I’ve been very hesitant about using any type of personal moisturizer.  I mean…  We are talking about a very sensitive area.  An area that has caused me many issues…  I didn’t want to make things worse.

Chiavaye contains just six ingredients.  They are all-natural, vegan, and hypoallergenic.  And they are easy to pronounce!

Sunflower Seed Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, & Vitamin E

Yup.  That’s it.

No chemicals, GMOs, hormones, fragrance, sugar, artificial flavors, citric acid, silicone, preservatives, fillers, or petroleum.

At Chiavaye, I learned that, on average, women use four different facial products.  Yet, women are hesitant to use one personal moisturizer.

I thought about that…

I actually use five different facial cleansers and lotions.  Plus, I put body lotion on daily.  Yet, I am hesitant to use even one product as a personal moisturizer (or lubricant).

Well, that’s changed.  I am using Chiavaye daily for personal moisture and vaginal relief.  I’m also using it during intimacy to alleviate sexual discomfort due to endo.  And I’m even using it on a particularly dry and flaky spot of skin on my upper back!

Because Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer really is multi-use.  And it feels incredible!

Travel Friendly…Photo of Chiavaye Travel Friendly Bottle on Not So Mommy..., an infertility & childless blog

One of my absolute favorite features of Chiavaye…  The small piece that you can pop on & off to lock the pump.  You might think this sounds silly.  But I love that I can put this piece on, which inhibits the pump from working.  That way, I can pack my Chiavaye and not worry about it spilling in my luggage.  Also, the 30mL (one fluid ounce) can be packed in my carry-on.  Yay!

The Newest Member of My Daily Skincare Routine…

Chiavaye Personal Moisturizer is officially the newest member of my daily skincare routine.  Once I use the complimentary bottle that Chiavaye sent me (in exchange for this review), I will order more.  Though I think I’ll order the combo pack, which includes a 100mL bottle and a 30mL one.  That way, I have a big bottle for home (as I’d like to try Chiavaye as a shower oil), plus a travel size bottle.
